EAC-Virtual Threads
*Welcome to EAC Virtual Threads -* *the Online Chapter of the Embroiderers'  Association of Canada* Facebook button ( https://www.facebook.com/EACVirtualThreads ) * If you are an EAC-VT member and need information or help check the *VTHome Wiki* ( https://eac-vt.groups.io/g/VTHome/wiki/home ) (be sure that you are logged in to Groups.io).  The link to the wiki is in the blue menu on the left of every page. There's also an FAQ Quick Index ( https://eac-vt.groups.io/g/VTHome/wiki/FAQs-Groups.io ) in the Wiki for common questions. * Virtual Threads members can view the Executive Directory ( https://eac-vt.groups.io/g/VTHome/wiki/GenInfo-EAC-Virtual-Threads-Administration ) here. * We always welcome visitors and new members. Interested in learning more? Check out our *Come Visit!* information below. *About* *Virtual Threads:* Just like any other EAC ( https://eac-acb.ca/ ) chapter, Virtual Threads members have the opportunity to share their passions for stitching, their work (both finished and works in progress), and engage in chapter doings as well as EAC's activities and benefits ( https://eac-acb.ca/ ). Rather than gathering in a brick-and-mortar location, the chapter "meets" here on EAC-VT. Most interaction is via group posts (email discussion) as well as photo sharing, and utilizing the other Groups.io features. VTHome (where you are now) is the chapter's main site. It's where the chapter engages in community-based discussion with fellow members, shares their work & experiences, and generally has fun together. Subgroups offer specialized focus for things like classes, workshops, special interest groups, activities, and administrative needs such as meetings & committees. Benefits of membership in EAC Virtual Threads include taking part in chapter meetings, online workshops (some exclusive to EAC Virtual Threads) with renowned teachers (both international and domestic), challenges & exchanges that motivate you to expand your stitching and designing, and classes & special interest groups to pursue your dedicated interests. There are also lots of other activities and opportunities (such as online Retreats). You can take part in all of these (and more) - all from the comfort of home, just as long as you have on-line access via computer or web-enabled mobile device. ( https://www.facebook.com/EACVirtualThreads/ ) Membership in The Embroiderers' Association of Canada is necessary to belong to the Virtual Threads Chapter. Check out the EAC website ( https://eac-acb.ca/ ) for more details about National membership, or send an email to the moderators of this group ( VTHome+owner@EAC-VT.groups.io ) ). To find out even more about what the EAC is all about, check out the EAC blog. ( http://eac-blog.blogspot.ca/ ) *Come visit!* EAC-Virtual Threads offers a free 30-day trial membership, so that you to visit within the chapter and get to know a bit about all that's going on. Click the blue *Apply for Membership in This Group* button found lower on this page. You'll receive a reply that requests you to follow-up with us to confirm your interest request (your request will be held for 72 hours; if we don't hear back in that period of time, your request will be declined). This is a safe-guard to be sure that you initiated the request, and that no one is trying to attempting spam activity.  Upon us receiving your reply, you'll be activated in the group (on moderated status) for 30 days and be sent some basic information. The chapter's Membership Committee will personally follow up with you to help you settle in. At the conclusion of the 30-day trial, it's hoped that you'll join EAC Virtual Threads; if you decide it's not for you, then you'll be removed from EAC-VT. *Membership Fees:* Membership in the Embroiderers' Association of Canada is required to join Virtual Threads * Virtual Threads chapter dues are $15.00CAD/year * EAC membership per year is as follows: * $40.00CAD within Canada * $50.00CAD within the USA * $60.00CAD all other international locations We look forward to welcoming you into EAC Virtual Threads. Subgroups You Can Join

Activities

Subgroups in this category are open to everyone within Virtual Threads. Each is dedicated to an activity being run within the chapter. You may request to join any of these groups and your subscription will be processed by the subgroup's moderator.

  • Virtual Threads Virtual Retreats locked
VT"s next Retreat is Feb 26-28, 2021. Check out the information in Fun Stuff, and then plan to join in here from 7pm (EST) Feb 26 through 7pm, Feb 28, 2021. * * *Check local times across our members* (the clocks will open in a new window) ( https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/personal.html?cities=256,80,265,250,753,175,196,47 ) Need help with the Chat Room? Click here ( https://eac-vt.groups.io/g/VTHome/wiki/Chat-Rooms-within-a-group ) Twice a year Virtual Threads holds a virtual retreat (of course!). They usually happen in the fall and also during the winter, when everyone usually needs a little pick-me-up from being stuck inside. We hide away in our homes with our stitching projects and our laptops or online devices (having previously explained to our families that we're "not home"). The retreat is a time of fellowship & stitching that allows us to have some personal time, get to know other Virtual Threads members a bit better, and make some solid progress on a stitching project of everyone's personal choice. For many members, retreats are favourite events. Having our own subgroup "room" means that we can play without disrupting the general email discussions in VT Home, or needing to sort out retreat players from the general activity. The subgroup gives us our own email address, photos, files and chat room, here in our own little retreat room. We're able to visit with each other, either via email or live chat, and stitch the day away. Everyone adds photos of what we're stitching on for the day, which inspires everyone else and who knows, we might even get some good hints back about our work. For discussion topics? Anything you'd like! Be sure to read through the Groups.io Wiki Help & How-To info ( https://eac-vt.groups.io/g/VTHome/wiki/home ) so that you can participate and enjoy in all of the activites.

  • XXVirtual Threads Humongous Challenge locked
The Humongous Challenge is a multi-year challenge set up by Sharon Boggon of pintangle.com ( http://pintangle.com ) fame. The challenge runs from 2017 until the end of 2020. The goal is to make a crazy quilt project using 2020 different items by the end of 2020. The 2020 items includes different fabrics, beads, threads, and embroidery stitches - with each specific fabric, bead, thread or stitch being counted only once in the project. It is indeed an Humongous Challenge! You can check out the guidelines at 2020 Crazy Quilt Guidelines ( http://pintangle.com/2020-crazy-quilt-guidelines/ ). Many of Virtual Threads members decided to pick up this challenge, and everyone is in different stages of their design process. In this group we share ideas, posts from Sharon, and photos of our progress. Many have decided to make several items as this is a wonderful stash buster project. This is a restricted group; you must be a member to view and participate with its content. If you would like to join  this group please click here to request to join ( HumChallenge+subscribe@EAC-VT.groups.io ).
